Betty 2008Syer – DUCC

Born in Saskatchewan, raised in Alberta and British Columbia, Betty began studies at the United Church Training School in 1945. After graduation, she accepted a position in Trail BC as lay supply, and later moved to Consort, Alberta. In 1952 she was designated a deaconess by Alberta Conference.  When Betty married, she was one of the women who was disjoined. Her ministry then was largely in congregations where her spouse Keith was serving, where she is well remembered as a gifted wise woman and a great story-teller.  In 1983, at the age of 66 Betty was reinstated to diaconal ministry.  To read more about her life visit United Church Deaconess History at
