Genevieve Taylor Carder spent her life in service to others. She held a number of important roles with the United Church’s head office including: National Girl’s Work Secretary, responsibility for developing the United Church’s ministry with person’s of special needs, representing the United Church at the National Council of Churches and Canada on a committee of the World Council of Churches. In 1982 she served as president of Toronto Presbytery of the United Church. She also chaired moderator Dr. Sang Chul Lee’s advisory committee and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Sacred Letters in 1992. In her retirement she continued to serve others at Glen Ayr United Church and as president of the residents’ councils at Fellowship Towers and Shepherd Terrace right up to her 95th year.
Genevieve also shared in ministry with her husband, Rev. James L Carder, at United Churches in Hearst, Barrie, Sudbury, Toronto and Stouffville.
Genevieve passed away peacefully in her sleep at Shepherd Lodge on May 25, 2017 in her 101st year.
